Adjust multiple s-log3 clips with lumetri color via adjustment layer

Hi,
First of all, sorry, if this has already been covered, but I have searched Premiere Pro help and the forums without finding any answer.

I record in s-log3 and import the clips to Premiere Pro, which nicely convert it automatically to wide gamut Acescct and I can make adjustments to the individual clips using lumetri color, using the full "color information" from the s-log3 clip. The clips are converted/output to rec 709 using tone mapping.

But what if I want to apply the same lumetri adjustments on multiple clips? (in the same sequence).
Will using an adjustment layer covering multiple clips, use the full color information from the s-log3 clip?
Or should i copy/paste the lumetri color effects to individual clips in order the use the full color information?

Hope someone can clarify the above.
Thank you very much in advance.

Hi there,

I assume you're on the latest release (25.2.3) with the updated color settings that can automatically detect Log footage and correct it. There are settings that affect clips at the sequence level, so any of the Log clips you edit into that sequence will receive the same treatment. If you want to apply the same Lumetri effect across multiple clips you can indeed copy and paste, or copy and Paste Attributes > Lumetri to apply the effect to multiple clips simultaneously. HTH!

Hi John,

Thank you very much for your reply.

Yes, i use the latest version.

I understand all colorgrading is sequence based.

But can you please confirm i will use the same log data if I apply lumetri color on an adjustment layer as on the clips. So i do not need to copy paste lumetri color effext for each individual clip within a sequence.

Hope you can eloborate. Thanks.

It would work the same on the AL as on the clips, but the order of processing changes.

Order of processing goes top-down on a clip, from the CM settings through effects applied on the clip, as shown in the Effects Control Panel.

After all processing of effects to the clip posted directly on the clip, processing order moves to the next video track up if applicable.

So if you have an AL above a clip, the clip-based effects are processed, then anything applied to the AL ... in the order they appear in the Effects Control Panel for that AL.

Depending on what you do, processing order can matter a lot..

While I used to use ALs a lot, they can be messy and I tend to avoid them when possible now. It's easy enough to drag/drop onto selected clips or copy/paste attributes to a bunch of clips.

Or drag/drop a Lumetri effect to selected clips in a bin ... which applies it as a 'source' effect, prior to sequence applied effects. VERY useful for a lot of color work!

Everyone's mileage always varies ...
