Adjust volume of 2 people on 1 audio track

Question

Is there a way to level out audio of 2 people speaking on 1 audio track? Currently 1 person sounds a lot louder than the other one and I’d like to make them the same volume.

For best results, cut the clips into segements for each speaker and apply Auto Match to all of them in the Essential Sound panel.

For a quicker solution, try adding a compressor effect:

Apply the Tube-Modeled Compressor effect to the clip.
In the Effect Controls panel, click Edit next to Custom Setup.
Set the Threshold to the decibel level where the audio becomes too loud.
Set the Ratio to control how much the louder speaker is turned down (between 2 and 4 are common settings for dialogue).

When the clip's volume exceeds the threshold, it's turned down based on the ratio setting.

You may want to do razor slices (You can hit Control or Command K while it’s playing if you like)around the quieter person, select the section and adjust it with them with the audio clip mixer. I’m also a big fan of selecting all of the quieter clips (simultaneously by pressing left click/shift)and doing a right click/audio gain over one of the selected clips and bringing up the audio gain simultaneously with the blue numbers.
