Adobe Premiere Pro CC keeps crashing

I recently upgraded to adobe Premiere Pro CC from CS5.5 and for a while it was working fine, then all of a sudden a random crash appeared saying "Adobe Premiere Pro CC has stopped working" and no solution is found so forcibly it quits. I have restarted my computer and still the error happens whenever I launch the sequence I am working on. This is extremely furstrating!

I use Premiere Pro CC

I have installed the latest updates

Windows 7

I use Dxtory for my footage and the codec is Dxtory Video Codec at 29.97 and the files are .avi

    Hey Kids,

I read through all of this as I had been having the same problem. Robert actually almost got the answer but I did change my RAM and update the driver to my GTX780ti as he suggested.

This is what worked for me. Auto save is the culprit. SHUT IT OFF. I save anyway, and I suspect most of you save continuously like I do, most of the time subconsciously. There is no need for Auto save if you condition yourself to save all the time. When you go to render, auto save wants to crash that party, party's over. Auto save every five minutes does mean crash is coming very soon. This happens especially when you use things like Auto Levels and Shadow highlight to pull up some dim video and you have the temporal smoothing way up, with scene detect and auto save kicks in just as you go to render. DOH! It crashed again. I even saw it go to auto save and I was simply clicking off an effect to get my cuts right before turning the effect back on to render. Auto save just wants to get in the way of production.

No more crashes since I shut auto save off.

I got an i7 hexcore, 24 gb ram, win 7, ASUS ROG RADR as my PC boot drive, 2 X 4TB 7200 rpm SATA III RAID0.

I will be rebuilding my hackintosh with two 750 GB Samsung EVO SSD SATAIII RAID0 as the boot drive and I suspect the same thing will occur with the auto save. Just shut it off and learn to save regularly. I have no idea why I even use auto save since I do save almost all the time. (Am I ruminating?) I was a little paranoid, opting to save right after a render before I figured this out. I was going to clear out the preview files and render again, then I realized, auto save not necessary.

If Premiere crashes again regularly, the I guess I will be wrong but since I shut off auto save. no crashes.

Also, FYI. Windows sucks and you better shut off the updates and I terminate a pesky little program that will choke premiere, AE and anything CPU and memory intensive. It's called "Trusted Installer." Do that after you shut off updates. This computer rarely chokes and yep, it was choking big time today. Windows will eventually pop your settings to download and install updates without you wanting to, since they do that and you will have to shut them off again. I can edit on either but Windows has some issues with hiccups on the play head. I shut off all antivirus/antispyware. That hiccup never goes away. I also leave all hard drives on because Dreamweaver crashes all the time if you don't make a custom power profile. I have just under 17TB total. I am now conditioning myself to change power options back to "balanced" when I am done for the day for if I don't, I will shorten the life of my nice hard drives.

Adobe, this is the second program giving me problems to the point it costs me serious time and brain power. I got brain power to spare but I'd rather be putting in into my work than playing games like this. For now, I am working around your bugs. Everyone else, shut off auto save and learn to save, save, save even in your sleep. I will be dreaming about saving tonight. I would post the crash report but it's almost 5 am and I should have been done a couple hours ago.

    I hope this helps.

    hi,

For what it might be worth:

I have tried all the suggestions here for preventing the crashes of Premiere Pro... none of them have worked successfully... and now I find that Premiere Pro CC 2015 also crashes the same... BUT I found another suggestion and it seems to maybe work... keeping fingers crossed, hehe... Please look to this possible solution at this link:

Premiere Pro CC 2014/2015 crashes when using CineForm AVI files in a project with Mercury Playback Engine enabled using …

I have been suspecting something with the GPU and openGL.. this now may place the responcibility for a fix from Adobe to GoPro as it might be the cinform code... worth a check Adobe staff... as removing the file CFHD_AVI_Importer.prm has helped my case and I have been using the cinform AVI as an intermediary.

Please note that this is only my suspicion, but I would not mention if I did not think it worth the effort to check out.

I second what JeffreyDM says.  I am working in a project with a lot of GoPro footage and CC2015 freezes up frequently.  I had to put that project aside and start a different one with an earlier deadline and I had zero problems with the application freezing up, and interestingly enough, there wasn't any GoPro footage in that project.  Aha!  The culprit!

I switched my Video Rendering and Playback to "Mercury Playback Engine Software Only" and things are working well again.  But I also have my Sequence Settings using Apple ProRes 422 for my Video Previews Codec which I had changed from I-Frame Only MPEG.  I'm not sure which one fixed the problem but in combination they are working for me.  Its a bit chunky at times but at least its not freezing and crashing every 4 minutes.  My ADD can't handle the frequent force quits!  For good measure I also opted out of Autosave but I can't say what kind of impact this had.  Just doing that step alone on an earlier attempt didn't change anything though.

For a little more insight into the background of the project, I'm using .MTS video files with GoPro .MP4 files.  I'm still having some issues with audio dropout though so its not perfect yet.  I hope this helps further the discussion and Adobe can find a solution.  I love Premiere so its hard to be too mad at them.  With that said, I'm going back to the regular CC version for a while until some of the quirks in CC2015 get worked out.

I was having the same frequent crashing issues in CC 2015 when working with a GoPro footage. Changed General Project Settings to 'Mercury Playback Engine Software Only' and running smoothly so far! Thanks for posting this suspicion, it seems GoPro footage was the culprit for me!!

My PP is crashing as well. I realized that after I import a clip in then click on it PP crashes. Anyone else having similar problemns still. There is no update out for PP CC (2014.2) and I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it didn't work. Any suggestions would be great.

    Alex,

The tech support guys available by chat are amazing. I think they should

be available for at least another hour.

If I were to guess, I'll bet you have a corrupt file somewhere. They can

get that taken care of for you I'll wager. They can even take control of

your system and do the hard stuff for you.

    Give them a try.

Same problem with continual crashing, tried out some of the advice from other users, turned off auto save, deleted previews etc. Still crashing, a lot. Deadline looming ever closer.

    Two things to check:

    1) check the drive CC does all its caching and rendering on. My C drive

was dangerously due to a bunch of working files CC creates that filled the

drive. I didn't even know it happened until I checked. That improved

    things a lot, and

    2) check for a recent graphics card update. My Nvidia card had downloaded

a brand new set of drivers. Backing those out improved things even more.

    Hope this helps.

    ‌I HATE Premiere!!!

it has cost me countless hours of sleep and many reasons for excuses to my clients! Forget the fact that I never miss a deadline, but Premiere does!

Need to switch. Really really wish apple didn't go the final cut x route now.

I like Premier when it works but that's only half of the time.

I think I have to go back to Avid.

    Beyond frustrated.

    We hear you, Nicholas.

Have you contacted Support, with the specifics of the crashes?

Have you made any detailed bug reports? If not, I recommend doing so; those go straight to the PPro team.

    http://adobe.ly/BugReport

If you'd like more help here, please provide details of the system with troubles, a description of the project/sequence/clips with which you're working, and step-by-step instructions on how to reproduce the problem.

This started happening to me recently too.  CC was so stable then... BAM!  Now, I can't work in it for more than 5 minutes without issues.  I'm going  back to Avid.  This thing SUCKS.

PROBLEM  Repeated loss of performance /playback and  eventual after les than 1 hour crash  “application out of memory” or  “system out of memory”

Relatively new to premiere , have searched for days on net and  forums but just keep going round in circles.

Q1. is there a definitive recommended premiere set up spec for mac pro?

Q2. Is  there a limit to what is possible on program and certain tasks that should be avoided?

    any help greatly appreciated

Cant get  anything  done, this is a nightmare.

just wasted 40 minute s in the most pointless adobe chat support.

I literally asked  5 times what he thought my Ram allocation settings should be and then he got the answer wrong.

    Q. Is  anybody getting consistent normal playback with 4K files?

    Q. Is there any resource/link that explains how premiere should ideally be set up on the new  mac pro? ive been looking for days.

I have had the same issue. Adobe, PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE IMMEDIATELY!!!! We are using your applications and are working with client deadlines - things like this absolutely HALTS the post production process. If ANYone finds a fix please post.

I am running on a MacBook Pro OSX Version 10.8.5. Processor 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 and with 8GB of RAM. Maxed out this laptop to avoid issues like this, but now the problems are residing in the applications.

Not that we should have to do this, but here is the route I am taking for now:

    1. In the Creative Cloud desktop application, click on the Apps tab.
    2. Scroll down to the Find New Apps section (bottom section).
    3. In the Find New Apps header bar, click on the Filters & Versions menu.
    4. Choose Previous Versions.
    5. Find the application you wish to revert to in the list, click on the Install menu button, and choose the application you wish to revert to.
    6. The former version of the application is now installed.

from Install a previous version of any Creative Cloud application

Very frustrating shit when you are trying to hit deadlines.

I have all the latest Adobe updates and lately Premiere has been very sluggish and keeps crashing. Program panel lags, and likely skips frames or completely stalls. I also get a lot of "low-level exceptions: ImorterMPEG". You would think this would not happen on a $5k desktop, but it does. Can someone assist please? Thanks!
