Adobe Premiere Pro Lag and Crashing August 2024

I've been using Adobe Premiere on a project I've been working on since June 2024 with noo problems until now in August. Just this week all of sudden the program had started to lag and now crashes everytime I try to edit (can only about 5 mins before it crashes). I don't even get a warning, the program doesn't take the command of me even simply dragging clips around. It freezes and crashes the whole mac without warning and I have to start the mac back up. I tried updating my mac to Sonoma 14.6.1 and Premiere Pro to the latest 24.6 versions and that has not helped solve the problem. The only plugin I had was NeatVideo which I uninstalled to try and alleviate the problem, but didn't help. I tried copying over project to new project after update. no luck. Running out of ideas. This just started happening all of a sudden this month and I have never experienced this in the 10 years working with the program...  Any thoughts on what's going on?

MacBook Pro 2019

Processor 2.3Ghz 8-core intel core i9

Graphics AMD Radeon Pro 5500 M 4 GB

Memory 16 GB (but everything I do is on an external sandisk 2TB which is only 3/4 full).

Activity Monitor shows CPU usage system only 1.8% and user 4%

Remediation steps already taken:

  • Purging Media Cache (partial)

  • Purging Media Cache (full, with restart)

  • Performing full system restart & power cycle

  • Saving the project as a duplicate

  • Creating new project and importing from old project.
  • Keeping all other applications closed

  • Keeping excess system processes to a minimum

  • Ensuring the system is on the latest, stable release of the OS

  • Re-installing Adobe Premiere Pro

  • Deleting plugins used (Neat Video)

Same boaty. Incredibly unstable. Using Davinci as a backup until this is fixed.

I reverted to 24.0 (build 58) and have had no issues since.

But I am hesitant to update.

For the past year I've been remarkable stable. A crash once a month was an oddity.

That changed in the past 4 days.

Running Pemiere 24.4.1 installed on Mac Studio with 128gb ram, twin M2-ultras.

A bunch of funky behavior and then crashing.

Saturday - crashed 6 times in 2 hours

Sunday - crashed 17 times in 6 hours

Monday - crashed the entire machine - pink screen - to reboot - 4 times in 4 hours

I'm currently trying to reinstall all Adobe apps from scratch - got a warning in Creative Cloud saying "it's taking longer than usual."

Adobe - - - - you want to do better. You really do.

So since having this problem a month, adobe came out with an updated version. I downloaded that and it worked for about an hour before it crashed. Definitely better than the 5 mins that I was getting. Can anyone else see if their updated version improves? I think it has helped but not completely.

I've been experiencing the same issue. I'm only editing a short-form social piece that's less than a minute. I'm close to the final edits, and now it crashes 30 seconds after any action it takes on the timeline. I have the most up-to-date version. It was working okay until today. I just edited a piece the other day, and this wasn't happening.

Same issue. My computer locks up completely and I have to reboot.

Happens on ALL projects in a variety of flavors.

Thid is definitely a Premeire App issue.

I'm having the same problem on a PC.  I can import clips, but when I try to trim them, BOOM it crashes.  I've tried everything that you did; sometimes clearing the cache and re-importing the files works, sometimes it doesn't.

Was there anything updated on your system that might have triggered this instability? Do you have auto-updates for Premiere turned on? It might be best to roll back to the last version that was stable.

Also, if you go to Settings > Playback, do you have anything ticked under Transmit Device Playback?

If you do, try unticking everything and see if that makes your system more stable.
