Question

ADOBE products are VERY laggy on company server but not on my computer's local server

For some context, I work as a video editor for a firm. Recently, Adobe products have been extremely laggy but only on my firm's server and not on my computer's personal server. The weird thing is, other editor's within the same office don't share these issues except for one other person. He and I both edit on a MacBook Pro, with an Apple M2 Max chip and plenty of memory. All of our Adobe products are running on their latest updates (Premiere Pro 25), his macOS is up to date but mine is not, however, we both have the same issue. It doesn't seem to be a bandwith issue for the server, because no one else is experiencing this, and it's not a connection issue, as we all run on the same internet and again only the two of us experience this lag. And like I mentioned above, this issue has only recently occured and this lag wasn't always the case. I'm not sure why Adobe has been acting up for us and nobody else in our office. If anyone has any idea how this could be resolved, that would be very much appreciated, as I'm completely stumped.

Hi @ADelekta,

Thanks for the message. I have some experience working in an enterprise like this, so I hope my advice will help. I would focus on the differences between your machine and the others experiencing no performance issues.

  • Do any other users on macOS have similar issues? If not, see what their setup is like. Are they using Premiere Pro or not?
  • Take a look at your Privacy and Security settings in the Apple menu > Settings. Ensure that all the disks that touch Premiere Pro have the correct permissions.
  • Check the location of your media cache. That should be set to your local machine.
  • Are you running the same version of macOS on both servers?
  • Have you checked the speed of your network yet?
How are your computers connected? Ethernet or fiber channel?
  • Have you considered updating macOS?
  • Are your media files and cache files living on your computer or are they placed on one of these servers?

With a bit more information, I can work with the team and the community in determining a course of action for you. I hope we can help you. Sorry for the problem.

Thanks,
Kevin
