After audio and video is synced, I can't properly create jump cut edits or use ripple delete why?
Just for reference not that it matters I am using a Tascam DR-10l external recorder with a lav mic with a small deadcat on it, and i'm using a canon g7x mark ii. I'm new to video editing and just starting out, but even though I have searched youtube for the answer to this question I still can't find it.
So I am having a multitude of issues. First and foremost, I have figured out how to properly sync audio and video (in about 4 different ways), but for this first video I'm working on I just decided to do the basic "auto synchronize"- and it worked well. So, once I have done that, I have then linked the new audio with the video and deleted the older audio. That part is all good, no problem. Here's where I get issues:
Once I have synced the audio and video, I want to create jump cuts after that. For now (even though I know it isn't the most optimized way to do so), I am using the razor tool. So basically i put my mouse on the audio where I want to create that first mark for cutting it and then I go to the video section but i see that the cut line for the video on the timeline doesn't match up with the audio cut line. It DOES work when I play it over (it just looks weird)- is that normal for the new audio and video cut lines to not match up visually? It's almost like the mouse jumps over the part in the timeline where I want to make that cut line with the razor tool. If you're familiar with Adobe Illustrator, it's kind of like "smart guides" but i am seeing a similar issue like that but in the timeline in Premiere in terms of not having that specific control with where I put that starting cut line with the razor tool.
Next issue is that once I go along with the selection i'll get rid of (even though it doesn't match up visually but works in the video/audio sync side of things), I go delete that selection and then do right click ripple delete. Here's where things get really weird; ripple delete brings the second clip with audio attached *almost* hitting the end of the first clip with audio attached. but it doesn't bring it all the way head-to-head which is really really bizarre. I don't know why it does that but ripple delete *should* bring the new selections in the timeline so that they are directly next to each other, with no gap inbetween. In some cases, I can't even get rid of that gap which means i can't edit properly. Why on earth is this happening? Any ideas?
I'd also love some reassurance that it DOES in fact make sense to jump cut edit and use the razor tool AFTER i have stitched together the audio and video.
And also i'd love to know that the way I'm doing all of this is right or not. I *should* be using "link" for the new audio and video once I have lined them up correctly in the timeline right?
Thank you from a new editor!
