After update cannot link media...

I stupidly updated in the middle of a project.... Now half of my footage cannot be linked. It comes up with the error "Cannot Link Media - The selected file cannot be linked because its type (audio) does not match the original files type (audio and video)"

Nothing has changed the footage is all still there. I tried opening a new project and imported the files in but it does the same, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Last time I ever update during a professional project...

Obviously an audio driver or component was replaced in the update.  While not directly related to your issue, I do have an issue with the 2018 version of Audition and PPro handing off the focus of a Steinberg USB ASIO driver when switching between the two, (I have to close one down to use the other).  This was never an issue with previous versions.  I also had other audio issues with Audition and have decided to move back to 2015.3 for new projects.  (Whomever wrote that piece of code for the audio changes needs a heads up on this).

Have you tried deleting your cache files?  Apparently, your re-linking is doing that very thing.

I tried chatting with the adobe help center with zero progress... I tried something just to see if it works and for me it actually did!

I basically converted my original files to a different format. They were originally .AVCHD format and I converted them to .MOV and it worked perfectly when I tried to manually link the footage.

    Hope this helps!

I just got advised to try updating the OS. Not sure what you're running, but I'm giving that a try in the hope it clears up the problem - thread below:

A fresh install never hurts.  However, a complete upgrade might lead to more issues.

You're manual re linking method forces new cache files.  Did you try to delete original cache files and force premiere to write new ones?

That's not always something you can avoid, given the vagaries of work schedules.

Something you can always do is test out new versions on a second machine before you update your production machine.

I moved my footage to a different drive and then went through and linked the same shots, seems to have worked. But I can't do this to all of my projects it will take hours.
