After update, it opened and I edited, but now only old version opens up - lost all new edits!

I updated to the latest Adobe Premiere Pro version. Upon installation, it opened up at the same time after download (where I had edited as well). However, now one day later, I am unable to open the new version which essentially means I have lost all my latest editing under new version. 
It opens up the old, and then when I attempt to open up my new project file (which got renamed after new version was implemented), then it says it cannot open  file because it belongs to a newer version!

I cannot find this new version anywhere. I have opened the app several times, and only the old version is seen. 

Can anyone help?

I solved it. I went to the Adobe Cloud and opened the software from there. ie clicked 'Open'.
I just find it strange that the app on my computer is redundant, even though it supposedly is meant to update that, there, too.
