Ahhh...another day spent troubleshooting Premiere

Was so excited to see the 12.0.1 bug fix released. But, not so fast....

Seems it's brought along a whole new set of bugs. I've been able to get by with this stuff for years, but it looks like this time I may actually lose a client due to Adobe. I've been a long time customer, having spent well over $10,000 in many years, but Adobe is making it more difficult for me to love them.

This time around I started a new project, worked for a couple of hours on it, and boom, it locked up, necessitating a Task Manager shutdown of Premiere. No problem! These things happen. Just open up the last Auto-Save, which is set to 10 minutes, and guess what?... not a single Auto-Save exists for this project, and the main project file when opened is simply the blank project, as if I'd never even done any work at all, and I 'Ctrl-S' a lot. It's almost a force of habit now.

So, I try setting Auto-Save to every 5 minutes, start editing again, and it locks again. And again. I change the MPE to 'Software Only', and try again. Seems to like that better, although it does lock up(spinning circle) every now and then, but I'm hitting 'Ctrl-S' every single edit that I make. Slows things down a bit, to say the least, but at least I'm working. Also, the Auto-Save is now working again.

Then, this morning, every time I try to do anything at all in the project it locks up. So, I'm dead in the water.

My footage is all Cineform 1080P. I guess I could revert back to 12.0. Isn't this fun?

Well, I'm getting somewhere. The loss of Dynamic Link with AE hinted at the old 'permissions issue', so I checked, and sure enough, the 'Run as Administrator' checkbox had become unchecked for Premiere. Funny, it was still checked for AE, even though they were updated at the same time, and then uninstalled/reinstalled last night.

So, I checked the 'Run as Administrator' checkbox for Premiere, and now I at least have Dynamic Link with AE back. Never had this problem with Windows 7, but I do realize that Windows 10 is much stricter on security.

In my experience, they don't.  On a properly configured system, I've found PP to generally be very stable software.

Take a look at Step 4 below.  Might find something you can do to improve things.

"In my experience, they don't. "

As in mine. The comment was offered strictly 'tongue -in-cheek'. Hard to convey that in writing. That being said, most issues that I've noticed in Premiere have generally occurred in very recent years immediately after an update. My main concern is, this time it occurred after a .1 update, which is supposed to quell any bugs in the .0 release, and hopefully not introduce some of it's own.

To add insult to injury, I've just discovered that I no longer have Dynamic Link with AE. Guess a reinstall is warranted.

Oh, and my system is 'Step 4 compliant'.

    OK.

    How about Steps 3D, G and H?

    Hi SEBrame,

Very sorry to hear about this. Did you check your Creative Cloud folder for an Auto Save? Have you tried deleting Media Cache?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Thanks Kevin,

Yep, first thing I always do to troubleshoot CC apps is delete the caches and previews. The Auto Save problems seems to have been transient, as it's working normally now. Maybe it was stuck, and my changing the interval knocked it loose. Silly thought I know, but it's all I have.

Still getting random lockups with a spinning circle that require Task Manager shutdown. Downloaded and installed an Nvidia driver update yesterday, maybe that will help.

I have sync turned off due to an untenable internet connection, so no joy there. Maybe one day...

If you're going to lose a client, go back to what worked.  Stay there.  Lock the machine down and get another PC for other uses, or to experiment with 2018.

A little "tough love" here, as the client loss will be on you, not Adobe, as they'll be looking at you.  Not Adobe.  2018 is working for many.
