Alpha Glow = Total Freeze on Macbook Pro 2015

Hey i've had 0 issues with premiere in the last year until I had to install 2024 Premiere. I've had it be SO SLOW constantly, I have to shut down my mac often, is the update buggy or is my setup not optimized for these new features?

The problem I'm facing is using alpha glow on small images or video tanks the whole system, I can't use that effect without it making my mac freeze. 

Am I going crazy or is this something other people are facing? I pay good money for this software for it not to work 15-20% of the time.
