Question

any former Vegas Pro users here?

Hello all,

I've been a Vegas Pro using since it's beginning (in fact I was a beta tester years ago).

That said, I'm not at all happy with with the newest release due to all of the crashing with 4K clips...in fact to get any kind of decent playback I have to make proxy files.

I just installed the Premiere trial and it plays them nice and smooth.

My question is, if you use or are a former user of Vegas Pro, how difficult was the learning curve to adapt to Premier?

Thanks very much,

Randy

You will not receive support from Sony, in the case of Vegas Pro, because Sony no longer owns that product line. You see, Sony had sold most of its Creative Software line, including Vegas, to the German company Magix, back in 2016. Thereafter, all support now comes from Magix, not Sony.

Yes I'm aware of that, thanks.

I suggest you browse thru the last few months posts here and read about all the people having serious problems with Premiere...  Not me, but I know what I'm doing.  (sorry that just slipped out).  Every piece of editing software has issues with new releases and hopefully they eventually get ironed out.  I was on an Avid Media Composer back in the day when they controlled hardware AND software and still when there were updates things often went seriously south.  Imagine what it's like when everyone's using different hardware, operating systems, and installations that include all sorts of software that can have conflicts with the editing app.  I'm not in love with Sony on a lot of levels (wait, I didn't realize sony didn't still owny it), but maybe you should just keep working in the previous release til the bugs are ironed out.  (and maybe premiere users should follow the same advice).  that said, I like the premiere interface and found it relatively simple to transition to it after finally abandoning fcp7.  My experience with Vegas pro is too limited to comment on how easy it will be to make the transition but if you decide to work with premiere, you've got a great resource here to answer your questions.

That is a big factor as far as I'm concerned...Sony used to have a very active forum with ppl that really knew the program and could get you the help you need within an hour or 2 (much faster than Sony tech support.)

I noticed an Adobe employee involved in a thread earlier and find that very encouraging!

Thanks very much,

Randy
