Anyone Experiencing Trouble Exporting H.265 HEVC out of Premiere?

Hi All, 

I'm was attempting to leave behind H.264 for H.265, but it's not as easy as I originally thought. 

When rendering out of Premiere 22.5.0 this newer codec seems a bit buggy. 

I can export a video as long as I don't mess with bit rate settings. and I keep it in VBR Good Quality. CBR is not working for me.

I am attempting to render on a MacBook 2017 with Intel Core I7 processor. ( also tried on a newer 2021 M1 MacBook and I got the same results) 

What I would like to do is change my Bitrate Encoding to CBR and crank the Mbps to max, Change Quality to Highest, to get the best quality H.265 Video possible. 

However the software will either render to 100% and then freeze. or I will get an error message. 

 

I've looked at a bunch of threads and nothing seems to be consistent with H.265, is it just too new of a codec to be relying on?

    (Code 3)” Full error message. “The driver for this device might be corrupted, or your system may be running low on memory or other resources. .. i dont know what mac your trying to use but it would have to be amacbook pro thats new.. i read down your settings and see you were in 8K 30 frp. if you were trying to also upscale the video as well (not saying you did but 8k cams are still few and far between or still very expebsive. why you want the footage in a delivery codec instead work in proress until you have to create web / AR type deliverables but im not sure how well H265 works with alpha channels within AR.. try a lower resolution in your settings and experiment..G

    have you tried Neil's suggestion to output as prores and then take that file into one of the programs he suggests?  It may be an extra step, but if it solves the problem, may be the answer.

    I did it with a h.264 export then threw it back into media encoder and it seemed to work but wondering if there is an actual fix so that I can render directly from the timeline

      H265 export it keep giving me the same error when my input file is 7680x7680.

      Strange enough premier descale output to 5968x5698 automaticaly then drop me an `ecoder error` at export start.

      Descale my input file eg.3840x7680 pass this error.

      Surely not the result I want, tried every other setting but likely a H265 codec error in premier?

      Surely not a general codec limitation though I can make H265 7680x7680 files with insta-sticher for instance.

      You have an odd framesize and set main-6.2-main

      Turn off max render and depth.

      First, ditch the CBR ... why demand it spend the same amount of bits on a frame with say no motion and no fine detail as on a frame with fine detail and motion? It's simply extra processing and file size for no visual gain.

       

      CBR is actually best used to hold down file size, by not allowing the bits to be increased when needed.

       

      Second ... while H.265 can get smaller, it's not always better than H.264. Your mileage will always vary from everyone else's of course, so always test anything like this.

       

      Third ... Premiere's H.264 & HEVC/265 encoding is useful but not the highest user-control. I do know alot of editors who export a say ProRes422 out of Premiere as a master file. They then take that master into ffmpeg, Handbrake, or Shutterencoder to make the H.264/5 deliverable files they need.

        Your idea is so great. But let me ask, I have a .MOV video and I want to convert it to MP4 but it is h265, not h264 using ffmpeg. How can I transfer it? I would like to thank you very much sir
