Applied 8bit effect to 10bit video

Hello guys,

I have heard that if I have applied 8bit effect to 10bit video so this video is going to be downgrade to 8bit. Is it true? If yes, so my sequence with all cut videos is going to be in 8bit or just specific one cut part which got 8bit effect?

Please help.
