Applying essential sounds tag to an entire layer

I'm puzzled by your question ...

- Is there a way to apply the essential sounds tag to each seperate layer rather than each clip / file?

You should be able to do this with selecting all clips on a track while the Essential Audio workspace is open, then selecting a type from the list. If you're having a problem, after applying, and while everything is still selected, hit the "Clear Audio Type" button, and then re-select a type.

If you select all on a track, and it doesn't show the audio type dialogue options, or there's only one not grayed out, it means that one or more clips has an audio type already selected. If you want to set all to something together, click on the Preset drop-down right below where it says 'multiple clips selected' and select a specific type/preset.

That will over-ride any clips on the track, and set all that track to the one type you chose.

A quick way to do this sort of thing is to set keyboard shortcuts for "lock all audio tracks" ... use that to lock all and then unclick the lock icon on the track you wish to work. Hit the A key to go into "track forward" mode with the cursor, click on the first clip of the track, and all clips on the track are selected. Make your setting change with the audio dialog. Then hit your "lock all audio tracks" keyboard shortcut again and it toggles the locks off.
