Question

Are the new Mac Mini's adequate for 1080p training videos?

Hello,

Currently I'm using a 17" Lenovo Think Pad at work, with an Intel Core i7-2.70GHz processor, 16GB of Ram, and a 512 GB SSD. It's a bit slow when rendering, and exteremely slow in after effects, and was wondering if a new Mac Mini might be a better option without breaking the bank. The model I would be building would be a Mac Mini with a 3.2GHz 6-core i5, with 32GB of memory and a 1TB SSD. Would that be enough to handle training videos and ocasional marketing videos I am tasked to do? I would just like to be able to render video, or effectively (and quickly) make changes with chroma keying in after effects, etc. and my current setup takes forever. Also, I am and have always been a mac guy. 🙂 I just don't want to requisition a new Mac Mini only to find it sililar or slower than my current set-up, and a MacBook Pro is out of budget.

Anyway, I'd appreciate your thoughts?

I don't think you'll see a worthwile improvement with a Mac Mini over your current setup.

For $500 less you can get a better laptop with an Nvidia graphics card: https://www.amazon.com/HP-15-Inch-i7-9750H-Processor-15-dc1047nr/dp/B07SRXV9LG/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=rtx+intel+32gb&qid=1570567654&sr=8-6

Thanks for your input, JPooley. I also have a 2011 MacBook Pro, which I primarily use for live music (Mainstage) and Recording (Logic) but sometimes will use it for After Effects and Premiere, and even it seems faster than my current setup at work. That's why I was thinking about the MacMini as an alternative. BTW, I forgot to mention, my current ThinkPad has an NVIDIA Quadro M2000M graphics card.
