Aspect Ratio NOT WORKING?!?!

Hi

I've been using Premiere Pro for a while now, and more recently I've been noticing a huge problem with my Exported videos. In the program window, the video looks fine, but when I then export it, then either view it in Quicktime Player (I have a Mac) or upload it to YouTube, it is never full screen. This has been an ongoing issue for quite some time, and I am unsure of what to do. Most of my videos I shoot with my Lumix DSLR camera, and in my vlogs I use my iPhone, but it is always the same issue and is starting to get quite annoying. Can someone please help, I'm losing the will here.

Thanks,

bumpyJake

Most likely you're mismatching your source footage settings with your Sequence settings or your Sequence settings with your Export Settings.

This workflow has always worked really well for me on iPhone based projects:

  • Shoot 1920x1080p30 or 3840x2160p30 on iPhone, making sure that all clips are at the same settings.
  • Import footage into PR.
  • Drag and drop clips to an empty Timeline to create a new Sequence that match the clips as closely as possible.
  • Edit.
  • Export to H264 using the Match Source - High Bitrate preset.
  • Upload to YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram (which crops to 1x1).

Pixel aspect ratio (for Export) should almost always be 1.0 (square), but sometimes we might start with a preset that is perhaps 1.2 and forget to change it. With correct export settings, there is no reason an export should not match what you saw in the Program Monitor window while editing the footage.

Thanks

Please post a screenshot of your export settings with the left tab to output and with an image.
