Question

Associate subclips

Is there a way to associate subclips with their master?  At first, I thought subclips were saved below the name of the master,

Master 1

subs from 1 directly below 1

Master 2

subs from 2 directly below 2

Mike,

I must say, if I had to come in to finish a project started by someone else, I'd probably prefer coming in after you than most other editors. You sound like you'd have an efficient, and obvious, organization. Which is highly unusual in my experience!

Past that, I'll add that what seems likely, useful, and at times absolutely a requirement to one editor or field of editing is often to another editor or field not only not appreciated but a hindrance to the workflow.

This is something I've become very aware of at NAB discussions with others, and some of the forums I participate in ... all mostly pro workers, I'd note. And a SMPTE class, where every individual or group there had very different wants and needs from all others.

And the assumptions we users tend to make are normally not worth spit. Like ... the new Import page was meant for YouTubers. Well ... in reality ... that's a huge new tool for say newsroom editors prepping the video parts of stories for the 6 o'clock news, the in-house (and rather high-end) teams for major corporations ... some sports broadcasting work ... and other things.

In other words, a great tool for actually quite a number of very different uses. Yet, at the same time, not useful for many of us for most of our projects.

It's those very differences we need to all be aware of. So yes, PLEASE post questions, ideas, and especially, make Idea posts about organization things, which seems to be a strong point of yours!

Everyone's mileage always varies ...

Confirming our understanding: Are you requesting some sort of Project panel organization, whereby subclips would be listed (perhaps, indented), below their source project item?

Yes. Let's say I have a very long clip and I want to break it up into many subclips.

I want to keep the subclips I make from that clip associated with the "master".

At first, I thought the subclips would be added below the "master", indented, like a subfolder.  But that doesn't appear to be the case; it's not seamless. It appears that I must create a subfolder to put the subclips into.

Your request makes sense as an option, though I'm not sure most users are that organized about subclip use. 🙂
