Audio Crackling Premiere Pro 2025.10

Premiere Pro has persistent crackling scrubbing through timeline, and preview playback.

Not present in exports.

ONLY premiere has this issue on my system, After Effects is fine, Audition is fine, Ableton Live is fine, etc.

Using latest ASIO drivers as per my usb interface . Using ASIO in Premiere's settings.

System Spec - Windows 10, Nvidia Studio Drivers (latest) RTX 3080, USB Audio Interface Arturia Minifuse1

Its absolutely unusable for previewing audio and driving me insane. Any ideas welcome

Hi! It doesn't look like anyone answered your question with a resolution that's worked and I've been having this problem for an embarrassingly long time. I have a Ryzen 5000 series chip, 128Gb DDR4 ram, 10 TB of SSD, and a 3070Ti. I had the same issue with the crackling audio with two USB interfaces, seemed not to be an issue when running through my Realtek headphone jack on my PC. Only premiere caused the issue and I tried EVERYTHING I could find, but I finally accidentally discovered what appears to have been actually causing my problem.

I had gone through and changed drivers, maxed out power settings, installed Windows 11 fresh on a new drive with a new install of Premiere, but nothing worked. Until I learned how awful the H.264/H.265 codec is for editing. I do 4-6 camera multi-cam shoots of my band and other bands near me, in 4-5k resolution and as soon as I messed with color, got a few cuts in, or did anything, it would get crackly, choppy audio and eventually start losing FPS and stutter. Now I've educated myself on Codecs and I'm transcoding my footage into Apple ProRes or Cineform 10 bit before messing with it. Proxies worked a little better when I tried them, but so far the transcoding seems to have fixed the audio issue. Certainly worth giving it a try!

Is there a mismatch in the sample rate between your sequence, your media clips, and your audio interface?

What happens if you increase the latency or buffer size under Preferences > Audio Hardware?

Also, do you have Attempt to force hardware to document sample rate enabled?

I have checked sample rates in audio clips and sequence (all set to 44100)

Have also tried various latency settings to no avail. Also tried 'force hardware to sample rate'

Also tried just MME and not ASIO, set 'no input' , also no luck.

I have had this issue with mutiple projects as well.  Its only a short sequence with 1080 HD clips and no effects applied

What happens if you use Sequence > Render Audio? Does it process the audio first or immediately play it?

Hi there,

We're sorry to hear about this. For testing purposes, have you tried temporarily isolating USB Audio Interface Arturia Minifuse1 & checking whether playback is working properly on the system's default Audio I/O?

Thanks,

Sumeet

I have, and yes, the default io works better.  But then I can't use professional audio monitors, as an interface is needed.
I have tried multiple USB interfaces and its the same issue with both (focusrite, and arturia)

But as I mention, this is not an issue in After effects or Audition...both adobe apps with the asio usb interface as the output. So seems odd that premiere has these issues.

I have updated usb drivers, modified power settings to max, used process lasoo to assign a core to the audio process, uninstalled any nvidia audio drivers - ie all the fixes the internet offers! None to any avail unfortunatly
