Audio Dropping out all the time in 2025

Hi There, (Kevin!)

I am running a Mac Studio Ultra M1 - 64 gig ram, running off a Graid on 2K Arri .movs and switched to '25 and I can't hear the audio its dropping out so much. I am unable to edit. Its coming straight out the mac Studio speakers so no external complications. The audio that is dropping out is 48K 24 bit.

I set the project setting to 32bit float, can I change the project audio setting back to 24 after I have ingested into '25?

Can't find anywhere to do that...

Any other suggestions - I have tried the obvious ones, ram, video playback quality,  render audio in timeline...

Is anyone also having an audio drop-off issue in 2026?

It is almost virtually to work like this. Audio keeps dropping off during editting. When i pause and replay, it plays fine for maybe 3 secs and cuts off again.

If you have any fix for this please share.

I'm having the same issue. Doesn't matter what my input or output is set to. An example is just now I was playing back a video clip that I knew didn't have audio, but when I went back to my sequence which had audio a few seconds before, no longer plays back audio. I can see the sound meter moving, but no matter what settings I change, I still can't hear it. The only work around is to restart Premiere. Why is this even happening?

Can you see the dropouts reflected in the audio meters, or are you only hearing them through your speakers?

Also, just to clarify this part: "I set the project setting to 32bit float, can I change the project audio setting back to 24" — Premiere Pro doesn't have a project-wide setting that changes the bit depth in that way. Internally, Premiere processes audio in 32-bit float by default, and this isn't something that can be changed. Any bit depth settings you may encounter usually apply to audio files during export, not the project itself.

Hi Paul - its dropping out on the meters at the same time - good question.

I was wondering if it was something to do with the output setting - but it happens whatever output device I set.

And the video is not affected - Pro Res 6K - not dropping a frame and smooth playback.

Makes audio editing which is all I do, virtually impossible.

Many thanks

If the audio is dropping out in the meters as well, that likely indicates it’s not a hardware issue.

Could you share a screenshot of your Premiere Pro workspace with the timeline visible? That might help identify any visible issues.

Additionally, please let us know the following:

  • Are there any clip or track effects applied?
  • What is the sequence’s audio sample rate?

This information will help narrow down the cause of the problem.

Try Preferences > Audio Hardware and set Input to None.

thanks, that didn't work, a;so tried to reduce the buffer size. Why is it with Adobe - three steps forward, one step back?
