Audio is mono in source but stereo (in only one channel) when added to the timeline

I'm working on a sequence in a project with multiple sequences. When I take an audio clip and add it to this sequence, the audio is only on the left or the right, but when I play the actual clip in the source window it's mono audio. I need mono audio and I already have the whole video cut, this is the last thing I need to finish. If anyone has any answers I would be SO grateful!
