Audio issues with imported mts files

Hey everyone.

I am new to Premiere Pro CC after upgrading my computer (a new macbook pro). I have been working on an on going project in Premiere CS6 and transfered everything to my new computer. I have never had a problem importing and editing mts files before. But for some reason, when I import them to CC, I am only getting the video not the audio. I do basic editing and have limited knowledge. So I messaged a friend who is a professional videographer. When I described what was happening, it wasn't an issue he had ever run into and he uses mts files all the time. I have imported mp4 files and both the video and audio play fine. I have uninstalled and reinstalled premiere. I tried getting help from adobe tech support and it ended an hour later with the guy sending me an article that had nothing to do with my issue.

Any help would be greatly appreicate!

Thanks,

Alyson

Thanks! I am reading through this now and trouble shooting. I think it is something to do with the computer actually. My husband uses Imovie for his job and the MTS files don't load the audio in that program either.

mts files are not an ideal format for editing.  You might try converting to a better format.

Thanks. Agreed, but that is what my client gave me. So have to figure out a way to work with it. I was able to use Handbreak to convert the files and that works. The audio plays. For some reason Media Encoder doesn't.
