Audio Meter opens on its own and can't be closed

Occassionally when opening a window/panel from the Window menu, this mysterious audio-related panel opens alongside the window i chose (depsite me not choosing to open it).

The panel has no title bar, so i can't identify what it is. It has no hamburger menu. When i right-click it, there is no option to close it. i can't click and drag it to peel it off the interface and close it. It's just... there, hopelessly. My only recourse is to shrink it so that it takes up as little room on the interface as possible.

ChatGPT thinks it's the "Audio Meters" panel. When i go into the Windows menu, a window by that name IS checked, but if i click on it, i can't uncheck it to get rid of it.

This has happened to me on multiple systems and configurations, and is a bug that has persisted in the software for years.

Do not use ChatGPT: often incorrect information.

Hover over the top of the panel and wait until you get a black arrow with a little white box.

Now drag the panel to make it float.

Hit the red cross.

Thanks, Ann. Usability-wise. it would be helpful if this panel used the same visual language as all the other panels in the interface: a panel title, with a hamburger menu to the right. Putting a secret title bar on it reminds me of some of the more egregious hidden interface stuff from Blender 3.x.

i still consider it a bug that selecting a checked Window from the Windows menu highlights the window, instead of toggling it off. i can't think of another piece of software where clicking on something with a checkmark next to it doesn't toggle the checkmark.

@Ishan Y - Ann's answer is not a solution, unfortunately. The issue isn't that the panel can't be closed. The issue is the usability bug present in the panel. The problems are:

1. The panel doesn't have the same UI features as all other panels in the software (title bar text + hamburger menu), making the title bar "hidden" from the user

2. The panel (and many other panels in the software, by the way) won't close when their checkmarked entries are clicked from the Window menu. This is inconsistent with other apps in the suite — notably After Effects, which does exhibit this behaviour.
