Audio mismatch linking media

Since last week I have a bug in Premiere Pro 2024. When I'm linking the media files to my project I get a warning about the sound of the media file. Does anyone recognize this problem?

PPro version 24.3 is bugged with linking audio files. I reinstalled the 24.2.1 version a the problem is solved.

Hi thanks for your message.

It is the exact same file as I used when I made the project. It has not been moved or changed and the file location has also not moved. When I open the file in VLC it plays audio. I just tried importing the file again into my project and premiere does not recognize the sound. I know 100% certain there is sound in that file. The file has 8 audio channels, maybe that has an effect on it but on newer projects with different files it shows the audio channels correctly. I want to know why my older projects suddenly do not recognize the audio in those files anymore and how I can fix this.

I am a video professional, files that are different than the usual mp4 are not new to me. But this is an error that has popped up quite recently.

Questions:

Have you updated Premiere Pro or your OS recently?

What version of PPro are you using? What version did you start in?

What is the codec and wrapper for the media that is giving this problem?

Hi,

Awnsers on your questions:

- No I didn't. This problem is across multiple computers (I asked my colleagues as well to check the project).

- We are using 24.3.0 of PPro. I have not recently updated either PPro or my OS, I don't think the fault lies there because multiple computers have the same problem. I tried the beta version of PPro and it works there, but using the beta version is not a desirable solution because we work on projects across multiple computers and sometimes multiple people. We have the normal PPro as our standard program and for all of us to switch to the beta version is not an option. The version where I started varied. I have had the problem on a project I started back in 2023 and on a project I created last week.

-The codec is H.264 and the wrapper mp4 for the media that is giving me the problems.

If it's the exact same file, why are you relinking it? What is the difference between the old and new files? Were there other things you did which you didn't mention, such as moving their directory?

Are you 100% sure you're linking the correct file?

A small breakdown of my actions:

-I open the project file

-It shows the warning for media offline

-I choose the option to relink it, because that is the logical thing to do when media is offline.

-When I find the correct file, which is 100% the correct and same one, it gives me the warning of my initial message.

The directory has not changed and the file name has not changed either. The file is exactly the same as when I started this project

adam etc. has explained the meaning of the message - it seems you are now linking to media which is different from your original media.

Whether or not your intention was to draw attention to this design decision - I think it's a good question. Is this really the best way for Premiere Pro to handle this problem? Wouldn't giving a warning and linking to "silent audio" be better than deleting all the work a user has done with audio clips in the timline? Doesn't this then fall under the label of "bug", requiring a fix from the product team?

It's exectly the same file I used earlier before. So it's very strange why the project removed the audio when I'm linking the files

Edit: Didn't see the attachment.

The error is pretty self explanatory - the previous file had audio (which is in your timeline) that your new file does not have. So those clips will be deleted from your timeline if you proceed
