Audio Timecode mismatching in the project window vs the sequence

I have audio files from a shoot, I confirmed in the reports that they were captured at 23.976 frame rate, which matches my sequence. In the Sound Report and in the Project panel, it says the start timecode is one thing (i.e. 16:42:21:19), but then when I bring it into the sequence, which is a 23.976 sequence, and turn on the overlays, and put the playhead at the first frame, it says the start time is 16:43:06:04. This is the case for all of my clips, all of which are captured at 23.976. I exported an EDL of my audio clips and in the EDL the source timecodes match the reports and project panel info, so I’m just not sure why there is a discrepancy between the source file and what it reads as in the sequence when the frame rates match. I have tried things such as modifying the timecode/re-interpreting footage but that seems to only make it worse. I sometimes need to use the overlays to sync the camera and sound so this makes that very annoying. Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a way to make it stop?

What do you have set for timebase in the Preferences ... drop-frame, non-drop, what?

There is no option for Drop from or non-drop frame in 23.976

    Oops, you’re right! My bad.

Although then the question is ... whether or not the individual media bits are actual 23.976, or ‘straight’ 24 ...
