Question

Audio Track Mixer causing poor playback

I am using the latest version of Premiere on two different machines in two locations 55 miles apart.

One machine is running Windoes 11 Pro and the other, Windows 10 Pro that I remote into at work.

In both places, if I have the Audio Track Mixer visible, the playback "stutters". The playhead jumps, timcode display is not smooth, video stutters, but audio playback is fine. Keeping the Track Mixer open but switching to the Audio Clip Mixer, Source, Effects Control Tab, playback is smooth.

The material I work with is a simple 2 channel XDCAM 422 1920x1080 file that are :30 in length.

At home, I tried to playback an Apple ProRes 1920x1080 with 16 channels of audio. All plays nice and smooth until I display the Audio Track Mixer. Playback stutters, but after a few seconds, the audio goes mute! Switch to the Audio Clip Mixer or anything else and playback is fine, even while the playhead is moving.

Thank you!

I'm on 24.03 and I have a multicam footage up of two cameras at 720x480 60FPS CBR footage.  It was all working fine the last few days and suddenly today I went to edit and the playback was fine, but the playhead was jumping all down the timeline and dropping out which made it annoying/impossible to edit.

I did a bunch of things to try and resolve it (clearing cache entirely, different proxies, etc).

Just before I finished yesterday I was messing with the audio a bit and had left the audio track mixer panel up but paid it no mind today.

I saw your comment, went back and closed the Audio Track Mixer panel and poof! my playback problems went away and my playhead is nice and smooth again.  So this bug exists in 24.03 also.

I noticed if I muted track the playback head would get slightly better...so I think something might be buggy when it generates the audio meters.

My audio is four mono tracks of 192/24 WAV files.

One more update after further testing please:

I updated the NVIDIA Driver to 536.96 (Latest).

The show I'm working with is "Lego City Adventures".

There are 2 episodes bact-to-back for a total of about 22 min.

Video playback seems to have improved. Stays smooth and timecode doesn't "stutter".

Sequence would play for a time, then audio channels will start to mute until all are silent while sequence is playing.

I let the sequence continue to play and audio would come back after roughly 5 to 15 seconds.

Lastly, I failed to mention earlier that I'm on a custom PC I built.

My Audio Hardware settings are set to "Asio". Device is "ASIO4ALL v2". It seems to be the only way I get up to 9 channels of output that I can map. Selecting MME and any other output gives me only 2 channels to map. I'm hoping it's not my hardware or what I selected.

Thank you all for your time.

Correction regarding the NVIDIA GPU:

It is the Quadro RTX 5000.

Apologies.

Hi, Folks.

Just want to post an update and follow the guidelines best as possible.

Just installed Premiere 23.6 and now this occurs when the Audio Clip Mixer is up as well.

Issue: While Audio Track Mixer and/or Audio Clip MIxer are visible, playback not only stutters (video in Program monitor), but audio drops out completely.

Premiere Pro Version No.: 26.6

OS: Windows 11 Pro 22H2

Sys Info: CPU - Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-10900K CPU @ 3.70GHz 3.70 GHz

                GPU - NVIDIA K5000 536.67

                RAM - 128GB

Hard Drive: All Sandisk SSD Ultra minimum 2 TB

Video Format: Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) 1920x1080 16 Channels of  24 bit 48k audio. 23.976 frame rate. Progressive.

Workflow details: Sequence setting is for what video is. Sequence has 1 video clip and either 2(Stereo), 5(5.1) or 16(Multichannel) channels of audio on it.

Steps to reproduce: Play the sequence.

Expected result: smooth playback and able to hear audio.

Actual Result: All is good until Audio Clip or Audio Track Mixer is called up. After a short time (varies), video stutters and audio is muted. Need to stop and restart playback, but it happens again.

If you would like to reach out to me and do a screen share, please let me know.

Thank you,
