Question

Audio tracks editing.... am I going crazy?

Anyone else have issues with audio tracks in premiere? This has been an issue for me for a LONG time.

It seems as if there is NO difference between:

READ

LATCH

TOUCH

WRITE

OFF

I've been working around this for a while but it's frustrating.

Current frustration?

Mute a track to listen to another. Now that toggling on/off of the mute track is written into the sequence.

Yes, I have it in (what would assumed be the correct mode).

No matter what, it defaults back to touch. Which doesnt make sense.

Toggle on and off a compressor to get it dialed in? That toggling on and off is writen into the sequence.

I've tried every mode possible and they all do the same thing.

Here’s a quick explanation of the different track automation modes in Premiere Pro:

  • Off: Disables automation for the track—no keyframes are read or written.
  • Read: Plays back existing keyframes but doesn't record new ones.
  • Write: Records keyframes as you adjust settings during playback.
  • Touch: Writes keyframes only while you're actively adjusting a control, then reverts to Read.
  • Latch: Starts writing keyframes when you adjust a control and continues recording until playback stops.

After using Write mode to record automation, Premiere Pro will automatically switch the track back to Touch mode to help prevent accidental overwrites.

If you want to avoid recording any new keyframes while toggling effects or adjusting settings during playback, make sure the track is set to Read.

Paul, I understand this. Please explain WHY my project(s) continue to reset back to touch? This has been happening to me through multiple firmwares. yes I've tried new projects. Yes, I've unplugged it and tried the power button.

this is so frustrating, its to the point that I'm going to leave Premiere.

That would be very frustrating, but I've never seen that behavior. I wonder what is going on there?
