Automate Marker names

I'm working on a project, and I just wanted to find out if anyone has some sort of a script or batch file that would automate the naming of multiple markers on the timeline?  It doesn't have to be any more complicated than just a series of numbers, i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.  My current workflow is to add all my markers to the timeline by pressing M at the appropriate place on the timeline, then go through the markers on the timeline one at a time, add a name, change to chapter marker type, then click Next marker.  Rinse and repeat...  I just realized that there is a command to add a chapter marker in the Marker menu pull-down, so I found a keyboard shortcut that was available, and added that shortcut to my keyboard preferences.  But there's still no way to automate the naming of the marker  Anyone have any ideas?
