Question

Automating Attaching Proxies

Hello,

I am working to streamline a project for a client which was not running properly on her home station. This is essentially because she was working entirely off RAW footage from a Mark 2 DSLR, and the project is for a documentary with many hundreds of hours of footage (and thousands of clips).

I have created proxies for the majority of these clips, but for some reason they have not been automatically attached to their counterparts in Premiere even though I generated the Media Encoder request from within the Premiere software.

When I select 'attach proxies' in Premiere for a large swathe of clips, it usually does not work properly and often reads as 'attached' even though I can tell that it has not attached as the proxy footage is letterboxed.

Is there anyway to automate an attachment process? I have all the proxy footage in one folder on a drive, and it would be great to just have Premiere point to that folder and attach all the proxies to the footage in the project, and let that be that...

Thank you all in advance!

Michael

    Hi everyone,

Just following up here. I am able to attach the proxies no problem, but only if I search for the file name specifically within the Proxy folder.

If I allow Premiere to 'search' for the correct proxy within the folder, it inevitably points to the original footage within the root drive; so the proxy column still reads as 'attached', but it has just attached the original high-res footage 'over' the root file, which of course isn't what I want.

So my question is - how do I get premiere to automatically locate the proxies within the proxy folder? I have tried moving the proxy folder into a completely different part of the drive and searching within it but the program insists on finding the same clip every time.

I have 1500 clips to attach proxies to, and need to deliver to my client this weekend - so any urgent help really appreciated.

    With all best,

    Michael

How did you exactly made the proxies.

For them to work properly they need: XXX (name of the original file) followed by underscore Proxy dot extension.  Clip001_Proxy.mov

Thanks Ann. I created them within Adobe Media Encoder and as such they are in this format. They do work if I go through Premiere and point each individual clip to the right proxy file. But they don't automatically link, which is the problem as there are many thousands of clips in Premiere.
