Question

Automation Blocks - Search for last video track with a clip on it

Hi @Mathias Moehl

Is there a way with Automation Blocks to add a video track above the current, highest video track and then be able to determine what the track number is?

I want to create a script that adds a video track above everything and drops a clip into that track.

Thanks!
Sam

Hi Sam,

Unfortunately, that’s not possible. Automation Blocks relies on the Premiere Pro scripting interface (CEP / ExtendScript), and that API does not provide any way to create or add tracks. Because of that limitation, Automation Blocks cannot add a new video track or determine its number after creation.

The only reliable workaround is to require that the target track already exists (or to work with a sequence template that already contains the needed tracks).

Sorry I don’t have better news on this.

Best,
Mathias

No problem, Mathias! I am confident I’ll find a way to reach my goal with what’s possible.
I can’t stress enough how much my team has benefited from Automation Blocks and how much fun I am having using it.
