AVI Capture options for SD video

I know I can do a AVI capture but I see it is a lower res lossy file. Can I adjust the capture / save to 4.2.2  / 10 bit / lossless file or direct to JPEG2000 with all the same lossless properties?

Correct answer Ann Bens

If you are capturing with a SD camera with firewire there are no options. Its dv avi period.

The window showing the capture is a preview window of low quality.

Bear in mind SD is what it is 720-480/567.

Certain capture cards have more options.

But it does not add any info or better quality.

Thanks for the reply. My finished work is for Institution supplied audio & video content where their archival standards are for either lossless JPEG2000 / FFVI to 4.2.2. / 10bit specs which I have no problem to provide in the final output file in Premiere Pro and I have other capture hardware / software ( Black Magic / Avermedia ) which cam provide me with the lossy AVI file I need. Just have had some issues with both of them. Since I wish to use Premiere Pro for the final JPEG2000 lossless output, was hoping I might be able to do all the work on this one platform.

Hi Ann,

I have a QNAP 96TB NAS, and I am digitizing my entire SD archive through A Windows 10 machine through firewire.

Yes, seems like the only option is for .avi files. When I connect a Mac to my NAS and try to open the Premiere project file, the Mac can't read the .avi files, so it kind of makes my whole process a bit useless if I can't access everything cross-platform. Any suggestions on what I can do to digitize through firewire on the Windows machine and still be able to read the files on a Mac. Strange that Premiere can't read the .avi files on the Mac. It's a real bummer for my workflow. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Premiere on a Mac does not read avi any more.

Edit on the windows machine or convert everything to prores.
