Backquote ignored inside custom CEP extension

In PPRO, by default, backquote (`) should maximize a panel group. If my custom CEP extension is placed within a panel group and the extension has focus and I hit the backquote (`) key, nothing happens. Is there an event or something I can do to manually invoke the maximize panel group functionality from within my CEP extension? Or is there a way to ensure that when the backquote key (`) is pressed the panel group is maximized?
