batch connect proxies with different file name (ends with suffix _Proxy)

I'm an Assistant Editor. My editor created proxies for our project, which have the same file name as the original footage, except they end with _Proxy. I didn't know about the native proxy workflow until after we made all our proxies. I'm trying to batch connect these proxies to the raw footage. I'm able to connect them individually but not automatically (Premiere connects the rest of the files to the raw footage, not the proxies).

Can I maintain the file name suffix _Proxy and still batch connect these proxies? I could remove the suffix and individually replace all the clips my editor has already used, but I'm hoping there's a way to batch connect without removing the suffix?

To manage proxies effectively and ensure they link properly in Premiere Pro, I recommend keeping the _Proxy suffix in the file names. This helps differentiate proxies from original footage in both your file browser and Premiere.

If you'd like to force Premiere Pro to attach your proxy files instead of the high-resolution footage, follow these steps:

Relocate the High-Resolution Footage
- Close Premiere Pro.
- Rename the folder containing the high-resolution footage to a different location or temporarily disconnect the drive where it’s stored.
Reopen the Project
- Open Premiere Pro again.
- When prompted to relink the missing media, click Cancel.
Attach Proxies
- Go to the Project Panel, select the offline media, and right-click.
- Choose Proxy > Attach Proxies.
- Navigate to the location of your proxy files. Once you attach one proxy, Premiere Pro should automatically find and link the rest based on matching file names.
Relink the Original Footage
- Once proxies are linked, move the high-resolution footage back to its original location or reconnect the drive.
- Go to File > Link Media, and Premiere Pro will relink the original footage.
