Best practice adjust clip volume?

I have about 6 stand up sound bites.  Five were recorded with the same mic and settings.  Some of the people projected a little louder or softer than others.  So I'm going into the clip effects for each one and just tweaking the volume control for each one so they all sound consistent.

The sixth one was not recorded by me and without a wireless so the sound is quite soft.  So I went into that clip's volume control in effects and raised it as high as I can above 0 and it does seem to help.

So my question - and I know that there probably a dozen other ways to do this - is am I doing this more or less the right way?
