Bringing a sequence from Production to Project

Hello! I’m trying to take a sequence that’s in a Premiere Production and move it into a regular Project. I made sure all of the media that’s in the sequence is in my project, and imported the sequence, unchecking the option to bring in duplicates. But when I go into the sequence, select a clip and reveal in project, it opens the Production project the clip originally lived in. Is there a way to ensure it matches back to media in my current project? I was thinking reassociate source clips could work but it was grayed out.

Unless the project was once also part of the same Production, the clips in your sequence will most likely not link to the clips already in your project. This link is managed by the Production, so outside of a Production, Premiere Pro treats them as separate clips.

If all you need is to bring the clips in along with the sequence, select all the clips in the imported sequence and choose Edit > Generate Source Clips for Media. You could try removing the duplicates with Edit > Consolidate Duplicates, but they might have unique metadata from the Production that prevents them from being recognized as duplicates.

Thank you, this helped! But I’m trying to bring in multiple sequences from the Production that are using some of the same clips and make sure those clips all match back to the same source clip in the project. When I do this process individually for each sequence, it creates a duplicate of the source clip that the sequence matches back to. So the same clip could be in two sequences, but they match back to two different duplicate source clips.

I think I could select all the sequences at the same time and Generate Source Clips to fix this, but this is a project where I may need to bring sequences in from the Production as I go based on the project’s needs, so I’m hoping the only way to do this isn’t to be able to select all the sequences at the same time.

The only way I can think to fix this is to use the Video and Audio Usage metadata columns to find the clip in one sequence, hit F to find the in and out points, find the duplicate of that clip in the project, set the same in and out points, drop that into the initial sequence so the same clip is being used in both sequences, then delete the duplicate. Or, I could just leave the duplicates in the project and let them live in multiple sequences, but that feels a little disorganized. Do you know if there is a more efficient way to handle this? It would be nice if I could select the clips in the timeline and assign them to specific clips in the project.

The problem is that once you add those clips to a project outside of the Production, the link between them and the Production is broken.

Is there a reason why you need a project that is external to the Production with both sequences and source clips in it? If I know the reason, I may be able to offer a better workflow.

Try creating a new project, but instead of importing the sequence, copy it and then paste it into the new project.

Then import the clips from the location on your computer and make sure that they are linked properly.

Thank you! I’m a little confused by this, if I copy and paste in the sequence, it brings in all of the media so if I import clips they would be duplicates and the clips in the sequence wouldn’t match back to them. But I’m not sure if I’m just misunderstanding!
