Question

Button Editor in program monitor won't allow to add space

Premiere v26.2

Windows 25H2 (Build 26200.8246) and Windows 25H2 (Build 26200.8037)

Tested on multiple devices

When I want to edit the buttons in the button editor, in the program monitor, the new “mute monitor” button shares the same place with the one that adds an empty space.

Thus, I can only select the “mute monitor” button and I’m not able to add an empty space (symbol changes on hover).

The source monitor doesn’t have this problem and works as expected (see videos)

    @athletic_fact6385,

    > updating also adds new keyboard commands (on places that are not customized). But this shouldn’t be the case or at least there should be an option to turn it off like making settings like this read only and in cases of braking changes, it should make a copy of the read only custom setting and give an information prompt about this action.

    I agree. But a) there are sometimes errors and b) sometimes they are adding or changing things that breaks only certain shortcuts. But at least it is a single file and occasionally it is a problem that can be edited away in the custom file. It looks like that is not the case with the button editor.

    > At the moment, I’m not about to test something that isn’t a huge problem in the first place with an action that will take me up to hours to recover from (resetting the complete settings). Just not worth it in perspective. Maybe a later update will fix this.

    That is what I’d do in your situation. Because I do a lot of testing, I don’t customize a lot before I reset anyway. I’d love to see better tools for restoring certain customization after a reset.

    > Resetting the layout of the button bar won’t change anything inside the button editor for me unfortunately.

    I did not find a way to test that. I was hoping that a change might affect just that part of the configuration.

    Thanks for being responsive in this thread.

    @athletic_fact6385,

    I wrote this before Ann’s response, but forgot to hit send!

    Yes, it’s called “Mute Program Monitor” in the English version.

    On my main PC, I’m on 26.2.0 and have the mute monitor button; not on my other one, since it is still 26.0.1.

    I think you’re saying that the update broke your button customization. The way updates sometimes break keyboard shortcuts. Yes, always aggravating.

    Yeah, updating also adds new keyboard commands (on places that are not customized). But this shouldn’t be the case or at least there should be an option to turn it off like making settings like this read only and in cases of braking changes, it should make a copy of the read only custom setting and give an information prompt about this action.

    Trashing preferences resets the button editor.

    This is what I am seeing on 26.2

    If it does not work properly try trashing preferences.

    Strange, because the settings of the two devices I tested on are not synced in any way, still both behave like this.

    Do you know by any chance if the button bar is saved in a separate file (as the workspaces are)? I don’t want to trash everything if not necessary.

    @athletic_fact6385,

    I looked, and I don’t see a file. I’d try that reset layout button before I’d reset preferences. But you may have to.

    @athletic_fact6385,

    Very odd. Not seeing this here. Screenshot below. I see the same thing you do in the Source monitor. PR 26.2.0 and Beta 26.3.0.49. Win11 25H2 26200.8246. UHD Screen.

    On my Surface Pro, I am still on PR 26.0.1; same Win11 build. No “Mute monitor” button, but the space selector still appears on the right end, on a lower row by itself.

    Isn’t the mute monitor (I don’t know how it is called in English) button directly above the space selector in your screenshot?

    Global Mute was added in 26.2

    https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere/desktop/whats-new/whats-new.html

    Tried it with a new installed Beta and there it works as expected.
    Seems like the update screwed up some preferences. I hate, when this happens. Starting from scratch is such an annoyance when lots of time went into creating settings.
    Not a huge problem of course and maybe I’ll find the file where this button bar is saved in and can only delete this one without affecting all other preferences.

    I first noticed this problem on the button bar itself when the mute button was over the comparison view botton, same behavior as in the Editor until I deleted the broken button (the button was added by itself after the update… they should stop doing this when the button bar was modified, same with workspaces. There’s a reason why I made custom ones)
