Question

Cam sync issues in timeline

Hi,

We are importing Videos into Adobe Premier Pro timeline using FCP 7 XML.

We observed the Adobe Premier Pro CC-2017  is flooring the framerate like converting 29.977 to 29.97 instead of 29.98.

This is causing Video sync issues in timeline across different sources.

We found option in Adobe Premier Pro CC-2017 for changing the video frame rate i.e., " Assume This Frame Rate".

Is there option in FCP 7 XML to set  value for "Assume This Frame Rate"?  Please suggest.

Regards,

Sling team

As I understand your question, when you import a Final Cut Pro project into Premiere, multiple video sources are not in sync.

I'll discuss what you are seeing, and then below make a suggestion.

There are two things to consider right away. First, you are using different cameras which capture at different frame rates. Second, at least some of the cameras are recording at a variable frame rate. Some professional cameras, it should be noted, allow one to choose between variable and fixed, but mostly they are fixed. Any mobile device is likely variable.

The reason you are seeing the out-of-sync while in Premiere Pro and not in Final Cut Pro is that Premiere Pro is a fixed frame length editor, and Final Cut Pro is not. Premiere Pro has always been aimed at the professional market, and therefore assumes fixed frame rates. It is likely that Adobe will add support for variable frame rate footage in a future release, but I have no details on that.

One recommendation would be for you to re-encode your video to a fixed frame rate using Compressor or some other encoding application. However, the quality of the results may or may not satisfy you, and that depends a lot on what the subject matter
