Can CEP access the graphics tab of the text window?

Correct answer Bruce Bullis

Hi @Charlie23825220h9yc ,

Adobe employees can never discuss dates (without also scheduling a date for their own exit interview, haha), but API parity continues to be our priority. Toward that goal, we will first be ensuring that the import and manipulation of AE-generated .mogrts works as expected.

Any work to expand PPro’s APIs to allow for creation and manipulation of (PPro-generated) Text items, would come later; I feel safe in saying no such access will be available in time for NAB 2026.

Confirming my assumptions: What would you like API access to do, within the graphics tab of the text panel?

PS: Sorry it’s taken a while to respond; my existing Forum searches for sdk issues became obsolete, when we updated our Forums.

No, but...

What would you like to do, with that access? [Might be possible via other methods]

I'm trying to make an extension that looks at the on-screen text for names and verifies the spelling of those names as existing people. I got that part of the extension working, it pulls the text from the XML.  If there is a misspelled name, I need the timecode to find it, however, I've been unable to get usable timecodes associated with the graphic text from the XML.

Understood! Parsing the XML is 100% not supported. 🙂

Closest available supported workflow : The PPro ExtendScript API (used by CEP panels) supports inserting .mogrts and manipulating their parameters.

Direct API access to text layers will need to wait until after our first UXP extensibility release, for which our priority is feature parity. No dates available.

Hi Ash,

Thanks for the question. I tagged it as SDK, which is the one you should use to call devs to the thread. I hope we can help you shortly with a solution.

Take Care,

Kevin
