Question

Can I define my own naming convention and save location for VoiceOvers recorder from the timeline?

Hey all, I did some quick research on this but came up short.

I’ve got voiceover recording working directly into the timeline, and Premiere is automatically laying down the files as expected, but the naming convention seems odd.

Right now each take is being named things like:
    •    Audio 3
    •    Audio3_1
    •    Audio3_2
    •    Audio3_3

and so on.

What I’d like instead is to define a custom base name, for example:
    •    Voiceovers_1
    •    Voiceovers_2
    •    Voiceovers_3

Basically I’m wondering:

Is there a place in Premiere where I can control the filename prefix for voiceover recordings before they are created?

I checked Preferences (Timeline, etc.) but didn’t see anything obvious there.

Also:

Is this naming controlled globally, per sequence, or per track?

Trying to keep things clean because I’m doing a lot of VO passes and would rather not end up with a pile of generically named audio files later.

Appreciate any guidance.

To name the clips the way you want, open the Audio Track Mixer and rename the audio track from Audio 3 to Voiceovers. Now the clips will have the name you want. The name is taken from the name of the audio track you record to and you need to rename this for each sequence and project. There is no way to set it once.

    But it will still be:

       •    Voiceovers
       •    Voiceovers_1
       •    Voiceovers_2

It is however possible to rename the track for each recording, not the best way but it will do the trick to get Voiceovers_1, Voiceovers_2, Voiceovers_3, etc, etc.

For save location, go to File > Project Settings > Scratch Disks and change the Capture and Generated by clicking on the Browse button. Select the file path you like to save your files in. Now your voiceovers will be saved in the folder you specify.
