Can I use XML to change Text in Opening Credits/ Captions?

Greetings,

I have a film that I need to Title/ Subtitle in over 30 Languages (English, French etc.)

In the project file, I've created Clips for each of the Opening Credits. In the PP I use a Dynamic Link with AE to animate the Credits.

I have Captions/ subtitles in a ".srt" format file.

I'll have Rolling Credits at the end.

I'd like to avoid having to cut/paste Text into the Opening Credits/ Subtitles/ Rolling Credits in PP for each of the languages.

In the Ideal Case:

I'd like to store the Text source files in separate directories.

Since I know Perl Programming, and can general XML files, I'd like to be able to leverage them to change the text in PP automatically.

Is this possible? And if so, could you point me to some info to get me started?

You can use json to add/modify/change data and text in Ae. I think that would also work with mogrts there.

This is an old thread, and the PR subtitles have been completely reworked. If you are primarily interested in subtitles, check out the new workflow and speech to text.

But for burned in captions, I would follow Neil's suggestion, and use scripting in after effects to pull from a text file and populate your subtitles. The PR captions tool can have its issues, and I think you'll find it easier to simply create titles in after effects.
