Can’t drag after effects linked comps into Premiere Pro timeline

Hello! I just started working across Premiere Pro and After Effects. I’m having an issue that when I import the after effects file (file>import), it imports just great but I can’t drag it into an existing Premiere Pro sequence. It gives me the hand with the slashed circle when I have it over the timeline. I have:

-Ensured everything is up to date

-double checked the sequence and comp settings to make sure they are the same

-selected the layer I want it to drop into and try to drag it there

I’m able to make a new premiere pro sequence with the after effects comp just not put it into an existing one. Also, I did take the sequence I was trying to put it into and I used that sequence (a voice over) in that after effects comp. I thought that would be the issue so I deleted the sequence from the comp and the AE project and reimported but no luck.

thank you for your help!

Might want to source patch the track first.

    How would one do that?

On the far left of the Timeline header block is the area for Source and Track targeting. If you have a blue block in the Source or Track columns, that track will be ‘targeted’ for additions. If you don’t say for the Source target, then you can’t add to that track from the bins.

You can look up Track Targets in their online help.
