Can't import audio on AVCHD (MTS) file from Sony A7II

Yes, I've tried the "common files" cache delete and that didn't work.

If I shoot video in AVCHD, I can't import it with audio.

If I shoot video in XAVC S, I CAN import it with audio, but the file size is huge.

If I shoot video in MP4, I CAN import it with audio, and the file size is 1/3 the size of the XAVC S.

Can anyone verify that my findings are working as advertised? In all of the googling I did, not once did I come across someone saying that only MP4 and XAVC S was supported by Pr and AVCHD was not.

So, If I'm shooting green screen talking head for YouTube, is MP4 the way to go? Or will the quality come across if I shoot XAVC S and export the final product as 1080P H.264?

I think I've answered my own question during the course of writing this post. Just looking for validation at this point.

Almost. It seems I get a lot of moire when shooting a person with a striped shirt on when shooting MP4. I plan to try XAVC S to see if that problem remains. Otherwise, since I'm exporting to YouTube 1080P format as my final, MP4 seems to be the right way to go.

For the purposes of this thread, yes, I believe John answered it correctly, and I gave him credit. Thanks!

is MP4 the way to go?

    1. Shoot a bunch of test footage.

    2. Make some observations.

    3.  Make a decision based on those observations.

Ah, that might be it. I did a search of the specs and came up with "Dolby Digital AC-3 (2 channel) recording" on the audio specs.

But it didn't specify if it used AC-3 for the MP-4 or XAVC S codecs. I guess it only uses it for AVCHD. I wish it was a little more clear.
