Can't record multicam edits

I'm brand new to the multicam editing workflow but love the possibilities! I'm working on a sequence with 2 cameras that are synched on audio for camera 1. Trying to record the sequence as I switch between camera angles. I click the record button and a white bar pops up in the program window. I hit space to play the sequence and enter the camera numbers when I want to switch the angle. The numbers show up in the white bar, but when I get to the end of the sequence and either hit the record button or space bar either one, the bar and numbers go away and nothing about my sequence has changed. How do I apply the recorded edits and preview the new sequence?

I'm not seeing any white bar when I hit the record button.  I don't know what that is.

But you don't need the record button to make things work.  I never use it and in fact, don't even have it showing.  When playing, you just start switching angles.  They'll stick.

Didn't work. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but neither way gets the angles to switch.

1. Switch to Multicam view in the Program Monitor.

2. Hit Play

3. Select angles.
