Can't see 'Comments' in the Markers window in Premiere Pro

[Premiere Pro 25.0, Media Encoder 25.0, After Effects 25.1 | Windows 11, i9-12900K, RTX 4080-S, 128 GB RAM]

When opening the 'Markers' window in Premiere Pro, I can't see the 'Comments' field for markers on my timeline. For each Marker, I see a thumbnail, the Name, In, and Out, and then a bunch of blank empty space to the right where the Comments field should be. I can double click on each Marker to see the Comments, so I've confirmed the markers in question have Comments, it seems to be the Markers panel UI that is bugged.

In the above screenshot, you can see all that blank empty space to the right of the Name/In/Out fields where there should be the Comments field within a text box. The Markers window should look like this:

In this 2nd screenshot, you can see empty Comments fields to the right of the Name/In/Out fields. This screenshot was taken from the Adobe "Working with Markers" page for Premiere: Working with markers.

I've tried:

  • Restarting Premiere.
  • 'Maximize or Restore Frame Under Cursor' to maximize the Markers window, in case the Comments field was just rendering too far to the right.
  • Undocking the Markers window and stretching it across all my multiple displays, in case my multi-display setup had somehow pushed the Comments field past the boundaries of a single screen.
  • 'Reset to saved layout', in case I'd somehow accidentally manipulated the Comments or Name field to push Comments off the edge of the screen.

None of these have made the Comments field visible within the Markers window. As a separate bug, I've noticed that the filter option "Show In and Out" does not appear to function as intended'; whether or not that setting is enabled, the In and Out fields are always visible for each marker.

Correct answer Ann Bens

Only comment markers will show comments.

All others wont.

Thank you for the link to that other discussion! 'Chapter Markers' being useful for Quicktime and video players that support Chapter-based navigation makes sense, just wish it was listed in the official support documentation.

For clarity, "Only comment markers will show comments" is exclusive to the Markers window in Premiere; comments still display within the menu if you double click into markers, the marker Comments are still available via scripting and metadata, and the marker Comments for other marker types will all still export using the 'File>Export>Markers...' menu.

In fact, it appears that if you are exporting Markers as a *.TXT file, only the Comments are exported, and not the Marker Names. Curious.

Regardless, it does seem like this is intended behavior rather than a bug, so I'll go about filing an 'Idea'/Feature Request to make those other marker types have an option for visible Comments within the Marker window.

Update:

I had added the markers as either 'Chapter Marker' or 'Segmentation Marker' within my sequence; changing the type to 'Comment Marker' for an individual marker made the Comments field visible for that marker again, and changing it back to 'Chapter Marker' hid the Comments field for that marker.

This now appears to (possibly?) be intended behavior, where the Comments of any marker type that is not a 'Comments Marker' (Chapter/Segmentation/Web Link/Flash Cue Point) is hidden (intentionally?) within the Marker panel. Is this actually intended behavior? If so, I'd love for that distinction to be documented on the Adobe Markers helpx page, but I'd love even more for that to be a configurable setting; when creating automation workflows based on sequence or clip markers, it'd be useful to designate different marker types for my automations to operate off of, but that currently reduces their usability by end-users because of how the Comments field is hidden within the Marker panel.

(the "Show In and Out" filter option still appears to not function as intended, but I can submit that as a separate bug if the Comments visibility I described above is indeed intended behavior.)
