Question

Can't see some photos in source monitor?

Hi there,

I'm brand new to editing in general and brand new to premiere pro.  I have the most current version but notice when I import some photos from my camera  (GH4) most of the pictures are not visible in the source monitor.  But if I drag it to the timeline I can see and here it fine?  Other older photos are fine in the source monitor.

I also notice some of the new photos only covered 3/4 of the screen in the centre of the program monitor and I've had to make them bigger to fully cover the edit.

Any advice?  Please, not too technical.  I'm still learning.

If you double click on the photos in the project panel they should appear in the source monitor.

The pictures will come in to the timeline at their original size. You can try doing a right click and doing a "set to frame size."

If the picture is not the same aspect ratio (the same sized rectangle) you can either scale them larger so that they fill the screen (which will cut off part of your picture) or you can go to the project panel and click the new item icon (white page with corner turned) and create black video. In the timeline you can place the picture in a higher video track (say V3) and the black video underneath it (say V2.) This will fill the area around the picture with black. If you're happy with the way the picture and the black video look together you can select both the picture and black and do a right click/nest. This will flatten the two layers and allow you to treat them as a single layer.

Hope that this helps.

Thanks Rob. You are right that double-clicking in the project makes them appear in the source monitor. The issue is that I can't see the image or some video from the source before I even select it. I've tried reimporting and it's still weird but just for some imports.

I'll keep trying and I think I can scale up the ones that are in the timeline.

I'm going to keep playing with it.

Thanks,

Margot
