HI,

I have PP and use MP4 files like most people do.

I've now just discovered I can't add MP4 files to my cloud. So what's point of it then??

Very disappointing!

Can anyone explain the resoning behind this?

Cheers,

  • General cloud document storage: Only native formats like PSDC (Photoshop Cloud), AIC (Illustrator Cloud), XD, INDC, and certain PDF and InDesign files are supported. Direct uploads of MP4, MP3, AVI, GIF, JPG, PNG, DOC, PPT, XLS, and similar files are now largely blocked for upload as generic files.

For remote/distributed Premiere projects (be it Teams or not), we need cloud storage that streams media on demand.  Adobe Cloud Documents (where file like .PDSC and .AIC are stored) isn’t that type of storage.  Neither is the general Creative Cloud storage allocation.

Adobe used to offer Creative Cloud Synced Files that behaves like OneDrive, Dropbox, iCloud Drive, and Google Drive; however, those require full sync rather than streaming media on demand and as such not ideal for distributed/remote video editing.

@R Neil Haugen mentioned LucidLink.  That’s a well established industry standard for streaming media on demand.  They offer a free trial (I can’t remember if it’s 15 days or 30 days).

Adobe FrameIO recently released FrameIO Drive that also streams media on demand.  Adobe FrameIO for Creative Cloud should be included with you plan which might work well for trying it out, but you’ll likely need a higher level plan if you have multiple team members.

They provide this not as a 'general' user Cloud service, but as a specific Adobe app file capability service. So your apps can communicate to each other across devices.

I am frustrated they stopped storing user preferences there though ... which seems the same thing to me but ah well.

I hear what you're saying.
My actual purpose for using the cloud was to store the original MP4 files for use in teams in PP.  This way numerous parties can work on the project and could export the project using both parties original files when done.

Yea, that would be nice, right?

We went to using LucidLink ... I've a partner in Cape Town, I'm in Oregon, and we use to use, and even test and teach Teams. We went to the Production model and use LucidLink for storage/transport of the Production and the media.

Amazon S3 servers in London. LucidLink creates a virtual drive on his Mac & my PCs, they think the Amazon storage is local. Works like a charm.
