Can't. use Metal Recommended rendering all of a sudden

Anyone know what the problem is here? All of a sudden I can't use the metal recommended renderer. In order to NOT get a black screen on the timeline viewer, I have to revert to 'software only' for the renderer.

I"ve changed nothing. Only updated premiere to the latest.
