Question

Can We Please Get Real Tools for Real Editors?

Dear Adobe Team,

With every new Premiere Pro update, I see more and more tools that feel like they’re tailored for... let’s say, passionate smartphone bloggers who shoot with shaky hands and edit with TikTok speed.

We now have AI voice filters, text-based cutting, auto-reframing, and a bunch of other flashy things that look cool in a demo video but rarely enter the workflow of an actual professional editor.

Meanwhile, features that could seriously boost productivity for experienced users are still missing.

So here’s a modest list of tools that would actually help:

Built-in video denoiser that doesn’t require dynamic link to After Effects or 3rd-party plugins.

AI-based video upscaling for improving resolution and preserving details when working with mixed footage.

Beat detection and auto marker placement for rhythmic editing — because yes, some of us still cut to the beat.

Proper LUT export support — no weird banding, no hacks, no guesswork.

Node-based color grading or at least a layered grading system that goes beyond Lumetri’s limitations.

Smarter media management and background rendering — why do I still need to babysit cache folders in 2025?

I understand Premiere Pro is trying to make editing more “accessible” — and that’s great.

But can we also take care of the people who’ve been using this software for 10+ years to produce films, ads, and content that pays the bills?

Just a little love for the professionals wouldn’t hurt.

Thanks

Man, this is a post that I both agree and disagree with. I love some of those new tools that are getting added in. Text-based editing is incredibly useful and one of the best things that I think Premiere has added ever to the application. As much as I don't like vertical video, it's a necessity these days, and the auto-reframe is helpful.

But at the same time, there are some specific things that are only going to appeal to higher-end editors, and I agree with you that it doesn't seem to be as much focus right now. So far be it for me to let an opportunity to link to this tiny little but incredibly annoying thing that has existed in Premiere for years and years. It's the inability to have Premiere not automatically add audio tracks to your sequence. This is definitely the kind of feature/change/fix that would only appeal to high-end editors, as it can be such a time loss that you repeatedly have to battle on many jobs. For years, we've been asking for some way to help with this, but so far, nothing. It's beyond comprehension why this hasn't been addressed. At this point, I feel it might just be to spite my constant belaboring of the issue. (I kid,....)

Scott,

There are so many things in all these apps I wish the devs had done other than they did. Your example of the auto-adding of audio tracks is a great example, as yea, you can fairly easily select/right-click/remove them.

But it's extra steps that are simply a very unhandy distraction and at the same time slow you down when "in the moment of brilliance". So why can't we simply say somewhere "don't add tracks unless I tell you to" ... ?

You want to influence the development? Here's some advice based on how their system is built.

  • First, it's designed to use upvotes on Ideas to get information to the devs. Search the Ideas first, upvote the ones you support. All posts and upvotes go to the correct team.

  • Only add a new thread for things you can't find.

  • Next, only one thing per Idea post, as they want to be able to tabulate upvotes for specific things.

And past that, there are serious long-form and episodic editors thrilled with the new tools, the incredible new search processes, text based editing and even generative extend.

Plus, as someone who works for/with/teaches pro colorists, the upgrades to CM options in the 25.x builds are another massive improvement. The complete rebuild of their entire under the hood color to implement that, was a huge effort by itself. I am eagerly awaiting what noted colorist and trainer Alexis Van Hurkman has in store for us next.

As, although I train people to do things in Premiere and Lumetri most don't think possible, it's still not as slick to use or as natively "deep" as SpeedGrade was, let alone Resolve. Which I also work in and teach.

I will say, a good panel like my Tangent Elements panel is even more important in Premiere than Resolve. For both speed of work and quality of results.

Thanks for the breakdown — appreciate it!
Yep, I’m familiar with the Ideas system and I’ve actually posted some of those requests individually already (beat detection, LUT export, etc.).

That said... sometimes it just feels good to put it all in one place and scream into the void a little ))
Especially when updates keep targeting people editing reels with one hand and filming with the other.

But point taken — I’ll keep separating ideas properly. One beat marker per post, I promise )

Everything is a "system", right? From apps to forums to whatever. And figuring out how any specfic system works is always key to using that whatever-it-is most effectively.

And with as little screaming into the void as possible! .... yea.

In amount of time spent, I work in Premiere, Resolve, Audition, and AfterEffects. And wow ... all of them are so freaking different from any other of the group. The internal systems are simply bizarely different.

Yet each can do amazing things, and also, can provide a serious need to run screaming into the void at times. Seems to be "the nature of the beast".
