Cannot Capture VHS Footage via Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt and HDMI

I recently purchased a Black Magic Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt to capture VHS footage through Premiere. I changed all the settings to match the Black Magic requirements, but it still says "Capture Device Offline". I even used the free Media Express software that came with the Intensity Shuttle and nothing shows up there either. Anyone else run into this problem? I checked the HDMI cables, and they work fine.  I connected the HDMI to my iMac via a Thunderbolt adapter (which I normally use to connect to a dual monitor system). Not sure why nothing is showing up.

Not sure why you have the HDMI connected to your iMac. You should be connecting to the VHS deck with a composite cable to the Intensity Shuttle. Having said that the Intensity Shuttle cannot capture VHS tapes without a TBC. The video link might help you set it up correctly but you still need a Time Base Corrector (TBC)
