Cannot change text in Essential Graphics Titler

1. I open the Essential Graphics panel and browse for a template that I then drag to my timeline.

2. I select Edit in the Essential Graphics panel and see a layer with the sample text in it, which corresponds to the text on the output monitor.

3. I can clear, cut, paste, duplicate, etc. the layer, but I cannot change the content of that layer. Let me be clear - I can change its position, its font, its style, alignment, pretty much everything EXCEPT what the text actually says. Clicking, double-clicking, right-clicking on the text in the monitor or on the layer name do not yield any blue, red, or other color boxes to indicate that the text is selected. And of course, I cannot type any text at all. Unless I want to drag all my assets in from other apps, there seems to be no way to change what my titles say.

4. I cannot take the text tool and simply drag a box on the output monitor and start typing text, like the most recent tutorials around the web demonstrate. The panel is activated, but that's the extent of the interaction.

I've done some basic title work in Premiere Pro in the past, and have never encountered such problems. As a very occasional user, I can't tell if there's some update that has changed things, or if I'm missing something basic.

I'm using Premiere Pro CC 2017, release 2017.1.2, build 11.1.2 (22) on a PC - 64-bit Windows 10 Home version 1703 OS Build 15063.540

I'll post video of my attempts if someone can point me toward a free screen capture app capable of video capture.

There appears to be a bug in Essential Graphics.  I stumbled across an article that says the problem is Windows scaling.  If you set your windows display setting to 100% it works.  125% doesn't allow the text to be highlighted or modified like any other Adobe product.  One other user wrote that 150% scaling somewhat worked, but 125% does NOT.  This is something Adobe needs to fix.  I spent nearly 2 hours today trying to figure this out.

I am having this same issue on a Windows machine. I thought I was missing something and it's driven me nuts for weeks. Thanks for posting!

Here's the thing... I don't have any of the news slates like the one you show or the ones used in most of the tutorials online. I grabbed a basic title instead, and under Edit there's no Title/Subtitle fields listed - just the layer.

I did discover that I was not in the Program Monitor Panel, but in the Reference Monitor. In the Program Monitor panel, I do get the red box and can modify text there. I'm unable to do so in the Essential Graphics panel, but that's no longer a dealbreaker.
