Canon XF705 HEVC MXF in Premiere Pro 2024 and 2025

After updating to Premiere Pro 2024 (24.6.3) form 2023 (23.6.8), Premiere will no longer consistently recognize and import Canon XF705 content.

OS: Windows 10 Pro 22H2 19045.5131

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X

RAM: 128 GB

GPU: NVIDIA 3080TI

The content in question is HEVC encoded video, PCM audio, and timecode data all in an MXF wrapper from a Canon XF705 camera. The files have been localized to an internal SSD, the camera file system has been left undisturbed, and we are accessing the media for import via the Premiere Pro media browser with the appropriate Canon XF profile selected.

In Premiere 2023 (23.6.8), when working to select and import content, each collection of camera files that are associated with a single contiguous recording are displayed as a single clip. And each clip displays a thumbnail reflective of the content of the clip.

In Premiere 2024 (24.6.3) and 25 (25.0) versions, clips are occasionally not detected by the media browser, or are present but report no duration, display a black frame for the thumbnail, and refuse to play back. This is true in cases where the same clips are detected and imported successfully in version 23.6.8. Further, the content is detected and decoded by Canon XF utility.

We have tried running 2024 and 25 Premiere with hardware accelleration disabled and enabled, updating the GPU to the most recent firmware (566.14), as well as localizing the files to various internal and external drives. The issue is the same across a separate, dissimilar workstation as well. That is, the same clips that are not recognized in 24 and 25 on this workstation are also not recognized on 24 or 25 on that workstation. So there may be something about those clip specifically that these newer versions of premiere does not like, but we have thus far been unable to discern what the issue might be.

Hi @Joseph35189463e8wh
Thanks for submitting your bug report.
Can you post a screenshot of the media file properties?

Would you be able to provide a sample file?

Do you know what firmware your camera is on?

The Camera is on firmware 8.4.3.1.00.

First, the media file properties from 2023:

[Adobe Premiere Pro 23]

Second, same clip in 2025:
[Adobe Premiere Pro 25]

This particular folder of footage is somewhat large. I'll look at what the smallest collection of files is that we can reproduce the issue with.
